The mercurial ascent of Bob Dylans nasally-delivered electric-poetry from coffeehouse background noise to the voice of a Now generation grabbed a lot of folks by surprise at first. But like a shot heard round the world, it winged Byrds and Turtles alike, and pretty soon everybody wanted to go huntin! Seemed like there was easy money to be made by monotoning paragraph-long verses over single chord strumming. For hungry musicians, the end of the rainbow now had a concrete address, streetside in the Village on what Gene Sculatti once referred to as "Simulation Row."
